I am a retired Lieutenant of the Duxbury Police Department, serving 34 ½ years. Twenty of those years were as a Police K9 handler and trainer. I proposed, organized and became the first K9 Unit for the Duxbury, MA Police Department in 1986 with my first police dog K9 Bob. He was a German Shepherd Dog I imported from Germany. I also trained K9 Art my second Police K9.
Together we assisted in solving many criminal cases: finding lost persons, recovering contraband and weapons, and apprehending criminals. We also traveled around the country competing in police dog trials. In 1989 we were members of Team USA, which traveled to Germany to compete in trials there.
Dogs have been an integral part of my entire life. Over the years I have had Welsh Terriers, Dachshunds, Mixed Breeds, German Shepherds, and Belgian Malinois. I have been training dogs throughout my life and helping people to properly socialize their dogs. I have never been without at least one dog and try to have one of those dogs be a rescue.
I am a NACW Certified Nose Work Instructor and I also compete in and judge K9 Nose Work (R) Trials for the National Association of Canine Scent Work.
I am not ashamed to say my dogs are my children. They make my life complete. My favorite dog quotations are “Love Me, Love My Dogs” and “A House is not a Home without a Dog.”
Honesty and integrity are two very important attributes to me and I strive every day to live by the “Golden Rule” with people and with animals.
